#workout Everyone's Resolution!!

I was reading over my blog last week and noticed it's a lot more "sequins"and a lot less "sweat"! I work out...(I'm sexy and I know it...yep you're singing it....Thank you LMFAO for implanting that song into our brains forever.)

Anyway, I am sure there is some crazy statistic about how many many people receive a gym membership for Christmas! I admit, I dislike the gym a lot in January! The odds of getting a treadmill or elliptical are slim to none. Don't get me wrong, I think it is awesome that new people are joining the gym and I think it is great that they want to start working on a healthy lifestyle. However, the expectation that they are going to lose all of their holiday boozing, chocolate dipped everything and tubs of movie popcorn by walking a mile on the treadmill for one week is a tad bit unrealistic! (I am totally not judging either, I most certainly participated in all of the above this season.)

No I am not swearing off Chocolate Chip Cookies as a New Year's Resolution. I try to keep a great balance between my cookies and my fitness regime. When I get cranky, it's usually one of two things...I haven't worked out that day or am lacking a cookie.

I will be honest I get bored with doing the same type of workout all the time so I thought I would post about some of my favorite workouts! If you don't like to get sweaty, lift weights or sprint so fast you think you may die then rest of this post will not be any fun for you. I am not into Yoga, Zumba, Pilates, etc.  I am just not a graceful person and look ridiculous trying to contort my body into awkward positions.  I like circuit training because I don't get bored, it kicks my butt and is never the same routine.



Barry's Bootcamp Nashville- @BBCNASHVILLE

I have been attending classes here since the end of September. They opened in the Gulch here in Nashvegas. The owner  I actually took boot camp with at the Green Hills YMCA! The first class I took was exhausting but oh so amazing!! The instructors let you know what levels would be beginner, intermediate or advanced. I thought to myself, "I work out 5-6 days a week and pretty hardcore, I am NOT a beginner." I pushed my treadmill speed up to a 10.5 to sprint... I wasn't going to let the beautiful blonde next to me beat me in a sprint contest...OMG... I couldn't walk for a week! It was such a wonderful workout and of course I started going to Barry's once or twice a week. Carrie Underwood takes BBC classes, and you know how amazing her legs are. The instructors are awesome!! They push you to a level you thought you couldn't reach and on top of that who doesn't want to sprint to a little T-Pain or Lil' Wayne at 7:15 AM.  Check them out at www.barrysbootcamp.com for class and price info.  Like them on Facebook here HERE and follow @BBCNASHVILLE on Twitter!  You can't even understand the intensity of this workout until you try it!

YMCA


I have two other instructors and classes at the YMCA that I love not only because of the great classes but because of the awesome people in class....there are only so many people you can smile at, sweat with and still talk to at 6AM.  There is a Circuit Blast class at the East Nashville Y on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays in the mornings at 6AM and at 5:30PM on Tuesday and Thursday nights.  Nikole is the instructor. She is one of the sweetest people I have ever met, but she means business.  We meet in the basketball gym where we run stairs, run suicides, bear crawl around the track, lift weights and do millions of pushups.  I took her class religiously when I lived in East Nashville and before our wedding.  Kate and I trade driving and I just shower at Kate's before work.  We slacked off towards the end of the year due to work travel schedules and I totally admit the time change sucked for getting up at 5:15!  I plan on starting back full force to her class next week!  If you live in Nashville and have a membership to the Y, I highly recommend this class.  It is not an extra fee and the people that also attend the class couldn't be nicer or anymore welcoming.

On Wednesday nights at the downtown YMCA there is another circuit class that starts at 6:30 PM!  It is 45 minutes of hardcore cardio and another 45 minutes of body pump!  If you ate a cheeseburger for lunch, it is TOTALLY gone after you finish this class!  Troix is the instructor, he is so hysterical and enjoys pushing your buttons so that you work harder.

There are a few more workouts that I want to share for when you are pressed for time or just in the mood to only hang out with yourself!  This post is getting rather long and all this talk about fitness is making me hungry!

My Favorite Time of the Year!

I honestly cannot believe it is almost Christmas!  This year has flown by!  I also cannot believe Dave and I have been married for over a year!  It has been absolutely perfect and I am so excited about the years to come!  I'm a pretty lucky girl!  Instead of reflecting this post on New Year's Resolutions, I wanted to reflect on this past year. 2012 was pretty awesome!

Onto another topic I am starting work on my 30 before I'm 30 list!

I am just 27 but I need to get moving it seems like yesterday I was 24...so crazy!  I also am NOT going to include anything unreasonable....like buy a Porsche and move to Fiji....however those would be nice!

On the Road....Again!

Well I haven't blogged since the end of July.  I have been a tad bit busy!  Since then I have been to West Palm Beach, Dallas, Fort Worth, St. Louis and back to Dallas this week!

I took my Mom to West Palm Beach for her 50th Birthday earlier in August.  She had no idea that I had also invited 4 of her Best Friends and 2 of my best friends.  It was a HUGE surprise and we all had so much fun!

Needless to say this bar was beyond interesting!

I then went to Ft. Worth and Dallas, TX for JT Hodges' CD Release week!  I had never been to either city and it was so awesome!!! I loved it!!

This weekend I went to St. Louis with Dave, my mom, Cheri, Joyce and Brandon!! We went to see Toby in concert and to the St. Louis Zoo for Brandon's graduation present!  We had SO MUCH FUN!!

Love of my life....Food!

Last week was a tad bit crazy.  I went to LA for work meetings which was so nice because I love my job and I really love hotels!  I stayed at the Ritz Carlton in Marina Del Ray.  Every afternoon they have this amazing mint berry lemonade.  This is the closest recipe I could find.










Ingredients  
  • 3 cups water
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 18 mint leaves, torn
  • 2 cups frozen/fresh blackberries
  • ice
  • 3 mint sprigs
  • 4 cups natural store-bought lemonade
  • mint sprigs
Instructions
  1. Bring the water and sugar to boil in a small pot. Stir the water/sugar mixture until the sugar is dissolved then turn off the heat. Add the torn mint leave and give the pot a stir. Allow the simple syrup to cool.
  2. Add the blackberries to a blender. Place a strainer over the mouth of the blender and pour the mint simple syrup into the container. Discard the mint leaves. Blend the simple syrup and the blackberries on low speed for just a few seconds at a time, just enough to break the berries apart but not enough to puree them.
  3. Fill a juice pitcher halfway with ice and add the mint sprigs. Pour the lemonade and the blackberry mixture over the ice. Stir the blackberry mint lemonade and add more ice if necessary before serving.






Another amazing drink that I had was in Santa Monica at Ivy At The Shore.  This place is so amazing and it is always full of celebs.  (Tori Spelling, Fergie, Josh Duhamel had been there in the last week!)  This drink is called the Black Pearl.  It had fresh blue berries, blackberries, and vodka.  I have looked everywhere for the recipe but sadly can't find it :( 


Tonight Dave made his amazing salmon and I made spinach.  He cooks the salmon on a cedar plank.  I usually find them in a 2 pack at Lowe's.  They are big enough so that you can cook 2-3 pieces on one.  Make sure to soak the planks like it says for an hour or more....I usually let them soak while I am at work.  

The best fresh Salmon I find at Costco.  There is enough to fix and freeze when you are just feeding 2.



1-2 cedar planks
1/2 cup brown sugar
2 tablespoons olive oil
1 tablespoon dried Italian seasoning
1 teaspoon smoked paprika
1/2 teaspoon Kosher salt
Whiskey

Directions
*soak cedar planks for 4-5 hours prior to cooking (completely submerged in warm water).

1. Preheat a gas grill to medium/high.
2. Place the cedar plank (sink-side up) on the grill grate for 5 minutes. Turn heat to low.
3. In the meantime, combine brown sugar, olive oil, Italian seasoning, smoked paprika and Kosher salt in a small bowl.  Add whiskey for extra kick.
4. Using clean hands or a spatula rub the mixture over the top of the salmon filet (the side the skin was not on)
5. Place the prepared salmon onto the cedar plank,what would have been sink-side down.
6. Adjust heat to low
6. Grill for 30 minutes ,or until salmon turns light pink in color and is flaky.



Spinach-

Saute 4 Cups of Spinach with 1 TBSP of Olive oil over medium heat.  I season with 2 cloves of garlic and salt.  Top with fresh Parmesan cheese!  YUMMM!


So after my workout tonight I noticed this place in the Green Hills YMCA.  They had some samples and OMG SOOOO good.  They have wraps, smoothies, SLUSHIES, and juice!  I talked to the owner and he said they had one at the Bellevue YMCA as well as were about to open one on 8th Ave.  I had two samples however no wallet!  I will be returning!!  You can follow them on Twitter here.  https://twitter.com/TheUrbanJuicer

Yummy Goodness

Last week was a whirlwind, trying to get back into the swing of things!  Thank goodness for this relaxing weekend!!  I made some amazing dishes last week! All from Pinterest of course!  Here was our Menu last week!

Monday- Skinny Bang Bang Shrimp, Mexican Corn and Roasted Zucchini

Tuesday- Turkey Tacos, Mexican Corn, Black Beans

Wednesday- The one night during the week where I go to the gym after work and Dave has soccer....this is usually a cereal or Luna Bar night.

Thursday- Key West Chicken, Roasted Garlic Brussel Sprouts, Baked Tomatoes

Friday- Turkey/Spinach Burgers, Sweet Potato Fries, Salad



 This shrimp tastes JUST LIKE the kind from Bonefish  but so not as bad for you!! Dave and I LOVED it.  Make sure to get large shrimp, otherwise you end of fighting for the last skewer.



This corn is so delicious.  Like I could of eaten the whole bowl!!!  I highly recommend this!  I used frozen corn and it was just fine.  Just make sure you get it plain. No BUTTER!

This was so freaking easy and so good!!! Will be on our regular menu!



I have to say this was my favorite side I made all week and was so easy!  Make sure to line the baking sheet then you don't have to clean the pan :)


Dave will not eat Brussel Sprouts but he totally ate these!  They are VERY easy!  Make sure to buy the brussel Sprouts fresh not frozen!

I haven't had a free moment to blog in a while.  We have been so crazy busy with weddings, parties, work trips, house stuff and VACATION!  We got home late last night from the FL Keys.  I am trying to delete some of the almost 2K pics on my iPhone. So I thought I would just blog a few random pics.
