Thanksgiving 2013- German Chocolate Pie

Yes, I know we are already past New Year's but I made this awesome German Chocolate Pie for Turkey Day and I wanted to share it with you!!

4 oz of German Sweet Chocolate- Chopped (I used Semi Sweet; the Baker's Chocolate Bar)
2 oz of unsweetened Chocolate (1/2 of Baker's Baking Chocolate Bar)
1 Can of Fat Free Sweet and Condensed Milk
4 Egg yolks
1 tsp of Vanilla
1 cup chopped pecans

1/2 cup of packed brown sugar
1/2 cup of heavy whipping cream
1/4 cup of butter, cubed
2 egg yolks
1 cup flaked coconut
1 tsp vanilla extract
1/4 cup of chopped pecans

1 Pillsbury Pie Crust

Preheat oven to  degree on pie crust box. Place in pie pan, flute and poke with a fork.  Bake for crust in oven for 8 minutes. (See Photo Below) You will want to put foil around the edges of the crust so it doesn't burn.

Place both Chocolates in a microwave safe bowl and stir until smooth.  Whisk in egg yolks, sweet and condensed milk and vanilla. Stir in Pecans.  Pour filling into pie crust and bake 16-19 minutes or until set at 400 degrees.  Let set to cool for an hour.

In a small saucepan bring sugar, cream and butter to a boil over medium heat.  Stirring continuously.  In a small bowl whisk eggs and a small amount of the carmel mixture (this is so the eggs won't scramble when you add them) Then return to pan.  Keep stirring until mixture reaches 160 degrees.  Remove from heat and stir in coconut and vanilla.  Cool for 10 minutes.  Pour over filling and top with pecans. Cool for 4 hours.

The recipe called for homemade pie crust...Pillsbury is my fave and who has time to make a homemade pie crust...not me!

The chocolate that I used.  I didn't chop, just broke up the pieces.

I am warning you this smells and tastes amazing just like this!

This pie was one of my favorite pies I have ever made!!

Due to the pie above, Dave and I ran the Boulevard Bolt on Thanksgiving Day.  It was a 5 mile run! My favorite race!

Dave and I at his parents house! Still sporting my 6 year old Forever 21 Turkey Day jacket! #festive
